A 22,000 seater ultra-modern stadium is set to be constructed in Eldoret town.
Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago on Tuesday revealed that they have finalised the designing, costing and timelines for the construction of 64 Stadium.
According to Governor Mandago the facility will cost Sh1 billion and will take between 16 to 18 weeks or 10 months to be completed.
“We have finalised the designing, costing and timelines for the construction of 64 Stadium. Tender shall soon be floated in accordance to the PPRA regulations for qualified bidders to forward their bids,” Mandago said.
Governor Mandago said the ultra-modern sports facility will also have spacious offices, parking, FIFA standard football pitch and IAAF approved running track.
Once complete, the stadium is expected to provide international sports arena for major national and international events which will attract revenue and create direct and indirect employment opportunities to Uasin Gishu county residents.
“We expect to break the ground between October and November this year. The construction will take between 16 and 18 months, since funds are available, we are optimistic that we will unveil the stadium in early 2022,” revealed the Governor.
“The historic sports facility shall host a hall of fame that will preserve our sporting history and recognise our sports legends,” he added.
