Uasin Gishu Women Rep Gladys Boss Shollei has rubbished Jubilee Party Vice Chairperson David Murathe’s endorsement of ODM leader Raila Odinga as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s successor.
Speaking during a TV interview, Shollei termed Murathe’s pronouncement as his ‘personal view’ and that he won’t decide who becomes the president.
“I think what Murathe has said is his personal view, provided he does not confuse it with the fact that it is not him who decides who becomes the President. It is the people of Kenya and those people who will vote right at the grassroots level,” said Shollei.
Murathe had in a TV interview on Sunday said it was time to reward Raila for all his struggles and sacrifices for the country’s democratic growth and progress.
“We think it’s time Kenyans rewarded the years of struggle of Raila Amollo Odinga. They owe it to him. It’s like Mandela, and 2022 will be a Mandela moment. And we would also like to tell him (Raila) to be a transitional president who will then nurture the young generation to take over in 2027,” he said.
Shollei however pointed out that the endorsement was a personal opinion and does not mean Raila was the preferred Presidential candidate for Jubilee Party.
“Making the statement is fine but remember we have to have a National Delegates Conference and we have to endorse the Jubilee Presidential candidate,”Shollei pointed out saying the various party mechanisms for the endorsement of a candidate must be undertaken.
