Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui has removed the appointment of Former Tiaty MP Asman Kamama as a member of the National Social Security Fund(NSSF).
In a Gazette Notice No.8094, CS Chelugui quashed Kamama’s appointment just a week after his appointment.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 6(d) (III) of the National Social Security Fund Act. as read together with section 51 of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection revokes the appointment of KAMAMA ASMAN ABONGOTUM as a member of the National Social Security Fund,” read the Gazette Notice dated 13th October.
Kamama is a close ally of the Deputy President William Ruto and the revocation has fueled speculations that it could have been politically influenced.
According to sources, CS Chelugui was forced to revoke the appointment following orders from ‘above’ after intense lobbying by Senator Gideon Moi and Tiaty MP Kasaait Kamket who do not see eye to eye with Kamama.
The rivalry between DP Ruto and Senator Moi has played out with those allied to Ruto losing state appointments with KANU now seen to be working closely with President Uhuru Kenyatta and the ‘system’.
