Nandi County Assembly has been closed indefinitely following a surge in the number of Covid-19 infections.
The County Assembly Speaker, Joshua Kiptoo said they have confirmed 6 new coronavirus cases prompting the move to halt operations temporarily.
“So far we have recorded 6 cases of covid 19 and we consider postponement of the Assembly operations so that mandatory testing can be carried out,” said Kiptoo.
“On 22 Aug 2020 ,the entire board and the staff was tested and they turned out negative for Covid-19,so I urge the members to be positive as we interrupt operations for a short time. I know members are unhappy but we have to follow Ministry of Health Regulations so that people get tested,”he added.
The new cases confirmed comprise two MCAS and four staff members
In his communication, Speaker Kiptoo challenged MCAs and the Assembly staff to continue observing the Ministry of Health guidelines on prevention of Covid-19.
A section of MCAs had lamented that the fight against Covid-19 in the county has been below par despite allocation of resources.
Kapsabet nominated MCA Fredrick Kipkemboi opposed the adjournment of the assembly pointing out that they have a lot to do in bid to boost the fight Covid-19 in the county.
