As the race for Uasin Gishu Governor continues to attract aspiring candidates, pressure is mounting on Soy MP Caleb Kositany to gun for the top county seat.
Residents of the county now want Kositany to declare his interest in the race to succeed outgoing governor Jackson Mandago.
They say Kositany, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, could be the man for the job.
The lawmaker has not declared his interest yet but some professionals, youths and elders want him to vie.
“We feel Kositany is the right person to succeed Governor Mandago due to his track record,” a resident of the county said.
They feel that with Kositany’s entry to the gubernatorial politics, things will change as he stands a better chance to compete with businessman Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop(Buzeki) who has declared that he will contest for the seat on a CCM ticket.
Kositany’s home is in Soy, one of the vibrant political hotbeds in Uasin Gishu County.
Moreover, given his deep pockets, he has the capacity to run a well-oiled campaign ahead of the by-election.
“The people want to support Kositany based on his development track record. He is the right candidate and has the capacity to take over and do better from where Mandago will leave,” said another resident.
If he declares interest, Kositany will join a number of aspirants including Jonathan Bii, Veska Kangogo, Cleophas Tirop and Ambassador Julius Bitok who are set to vie for the seat on a ticket run by DP Ruto.
