The Kenya Defence Forces’ (KDF) Captain Mike Cheruiyot is the winner of the 2020 Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) Golf Trophy. The event was held at the Kenya Air Force Golf Club in Moi Air Base, Nairobi, on 5th December 2020.
Captain Cheruiyot, the defending champion, playing a 26 handicap won with a total of 44 points; winning 20 points in the First Nine Holes followed by 24 in the Second Nine Holes.
The tournament was presided over by Major General George Owino who represented the CDF, General Robert Kibochi.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Kenya Defence Forces Golf Association (KDFGA) Brigadier James Githaga thanked GAPS construction and Engineering co ltd; the event sponsors, and all the golfers who participated in the event.
Giving her remarks, the Assistant Chief of Defence Forces; Personnel and Logistics, Major General Fatma Ahmed; who is also the Chairperson of the Defence Forces Sports Control Board, congratulated the KDFGA for being approved to join the larger Defence Forces Control Board Sporting events. This will ensure that the sport is recognised and is part of the KDF sponsored event.
The players who took part in the tournament comprised of: KDF golfers, golfers from various golf clubs within Nairobi and across the Country, including retired General Officers and Officers.
Other winners included Jacob Chacha (Longest Drive Men), Jennifer Ngure (Longest Drive Women), Collins Okun (Nearest to the Pin and Guest Winner) and W Kung’u (Lady Overall Winner).
Present during the award ceremony were Maj Gen Solomon Manambo, Maj Gen Charles Kahariri, retired General Officers, Senior Officers, Officers, Service Members, GAPS construction and Engineering co ltd. Officials and golfers from various clubs.
