Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has this morning been crowned Kalenjin elder by Talai elders at his Kabarak home.
The breakaway group of elders, led by Former Councillor Christopher Koyogi, handed him the community’s instruments of power and gave him mandate to look for the country’s leadership.
The instruments include: Sambut(a shield with a leopard skin), Rungut (a club), Nogirwet (a leadership staff), Sharit (an ordinary stick), Ngecheret (a three-legged stool), Kipkaliangit (a flywhisk) and Kutwet (a monkey-skin hat).
The elaborate ceremony took three hours beginning at dawn.
This comes just few weeks after he was blocked by youth on his way to Talai. The youth claimed they only recognise Deputy President William Ruto as the community’s kingpin with blessings to vie for the top seat.
