Pressure is mounting on Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya to run for the Trans Nzoia governorship in 2022.
A section of residents have already started campaigning for the no-nonsense administrator to succeed term-limited Governor Patrick Khaemba.
Social media has been abuzz, with netizens leading allies in drumming up support for Natembeya to gun for the top county seat.
On Saturday, Natembeya did not rule out a possibility of seeking the gubernatorial seat.
While reacting to speculations indicating he will join the race which has attracted several politicians, the RC said he is currently focused in serving Kenyans and will make known his ambitions at the right time.
“I am currently focused on serving Kenyans in my capacity as a regional commissioner. If there is any plan, we will make it known at the right time as long as it entails service,” he spoke in an interview in Kitale.
Natembeya’s possible entry will tilt the political landscape in the cosmopolitan county. It is already causing jitters in all political camps. Currently, those seen as front-runners are Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, Kakai Bissau who works in the Office of the Deputy President and Women Rep Janet Nangabo.
His excellent delivery of service as RC puts him at the front of the line and will easily give his competitors a run for their money.
Natembeya’s approach on administrative duty has earned him recognition. At one time, President Kenyatta told provincial administrators to be firm and follow the example of Natembeya.
“You must also be firm. Vile naona Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya anaongea huku… hiyo ndio kuonyesha kuna serikali (just like I’ve seen George Natambeya doing there. that shows there is an authority in place),” he said.
